It’s always better to prevent something bad from happening than to try to fix the problem after the fact. This is doubly true when it comes to oral health issues. At Mid Valley Family Dental, we care about your oral health and want you to have a great understanding of what you can do and what we can do to help prevent issues from arising in your mouth.
Cleanings & Exams
Everyone knows that brushing and flossing is terribly important to your continued oral health. What a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that having your teeth cleaned and examined by a professional is just as important. You should come in to our office for a cleaning and exam at least twice a year.
During these visits we will have a chance to remove all of the harmful bacterial buildup that you can’t reach with brushing and flossing. We will also have a chance to take a look at your teeth and see if there are any problems. If we are able to find issues with your teeth while they are still in the early stages, many times we can prevent them from becoming an issue in the future.
Sealants & Fluoride
We have a number of optional preventive measures that we offer to our patients. Sealants and fluoride offer an impressive first line of defense against tooth decay.
Dental sealants are most frequently applied to children and teenagers, an age range that is at a much higher statistical risk of tooth decay than the average person. That being said they are a great first line of defense for anyone looking to protect their teeth. Dental sealants protect the biting surface of the molars from bacterial decay.
We also offer a fluoride treatment that can help to strengthen the enamel of your teeth. Enamel is the protective barrier that your teeth have to keep them in good health. Over time enamel wears down, fortunately fluoride gives us a way to help replenish and strengthen your enamel.
Gum Disease Therapy
Gum disease can really hurt your oral health. Many people don’t realize that the same harmful bacteria that causes tooth decay can harm your gums as well. Gum disease occurs when these bacteria begin to build up below the gum line and can cause gums to swell and bleed – it can eventually even lead to tooth loss. It is especially hard for the lay person to recognize that they are afflicted with gum disease because it usually doesn’t cause discomfort or pain. We specialize in treating this hard-to-treat disease and hope that you take advantage of our services!
If you suffer from night time bruxism (tooth grinding) you probably have to deal with a decent amount of negative effects. Bruxism can cause teeth to chip, crack, and wear away quickly. It can even lead to a constant feeling of pain or discomfort in your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). We are able to treat these issues with a simple and elegant solution known as a night guard.
At Mid Valley Family Dental, we make it a point to adopt the latest in proven dental technologies. We believe in saving our patients both time and money and these dental technologies allow us to do just that.
